Follow-up items

With regards to the blog on branded handbag:
I've reassessed my net worth, and decided that I can't even afford a branded wallet now. I can probably buy a branded coin pouch though. *cheers*

With regards to the new car:
It's beautiful! The styling is great. I was goo goo ga ga. While my bro was high driving it. He's been sick the whole week, but when he's in the car, he's well. Strange but true.

I didn't get to say goodbye to the old car though. Actually, it has special meaning to me. Though it's not my first car per se (first was a Mazda 323), it was a car my dad helped me get close to my birthday three years ago. So, on the sentimental scale, it's definitely high. But, really, one cannot grow too sentimental over the material things in life. They come, they go. Move on. Would have love to take photos with the car, especially the lovely dents it has accumulated over the years.

And the hand-me-down...it's lovely! Tinted glass, great pick-up, spacious. And o-so-fierce black in colour. It's nice to be able to overtake cars with much ease now. And I think I've lessen the opportunities of other cars bullying me now.

With regards to work:
Praise God from whom all blessings flow. He provided when my brains were not good enough. He open roads when it could have been hindered by uncooperative parties. He sustained and granted me strength, even when I should be physically tired. He protected me, from scoldings and hopefully mistakes that could hurt me. Hooray! Case (almost) close.

What I did one Sunday morning

I did something I've not done before. i.e. appear at Changi Airport at about 4 am. I don't quite count myself as a morning person, but it was actually a pretty good feeling to take a walk and breathe the crisp & fresh morning air. The peace and quiet of an early Sunday morning is....serene.

Within the terminal it's a slightly different story. There were people around...surprisingly they don't look like zombies...even though I'm sure they've either not slept the night before or had slept very little to be at the airport this early in the morning.

The kind of exhilaration walking into the Terminal with a cup of cappuccino in my hand, brings me back to the times when I first graduated. My actual first dream job was to work at CAAS. I'm fascinated by airport operations. I'm quite fascinated by planes...I remember attending the Aerospace Trade show during JC-time, I remember how my dad used to bring us to the airport or near the airport when we were younger, I remember that my dad's ambition was to be a pilot (except he's colour-blind...so he went on to be a commando instead!! Go Dad!), I remember contemplating trying for applications as one of those airport control tower people...heard it's very tough but pays really well, I remember dating a pilot for awhile....I mean a YFC pilot...who eventually did become a Silkair pilot though.

Okay, enough about planes. I bid the bf bon voyage & farewell.....

Then headed home. And guess what I did??

I did housework. Yes -- laundry, change sheets, mop floor, clear out trash.....So, for two hours before Church, that's what I did. Now, one wonders what drove me to do housework in the wee hours.

One of my fave childhood playthings

Okay, those who know me will know I'm not the girliest of girls.

But I'm quite sure, every girl loves to play with dolls, in one form or another.

One of my favourite playthings when I was younger, was to play with paper dolls. Not so much the Barbie type dolls ..., maybe 'cuz I have no money to buy her more clothes and accessories.

So, it's paper dolls....what's so fascinating? I dunno...I think it's the mixing and matching of clothes. And the colours...and so many pages...and cheap.

Try this online version -- Candybar Doll Maker 3.

Will make one when I have the time.

Turning 20

Since 40 is the new 30, by simple logical deduction and argument, 30 is therefore the new 20.

So, I turned 20 last weekend.

Momentous -- definitely.

As a gift to self, I gave myself a flaming red hairdo. When I look into the mirror, I kinda feel like one of those angry manga characters ready to launch an attack on her enemies. *Fierce with a touch of mischief*

It's a good time to do a stock-take of how life's been. The last one I did was just about 1.5 yrs ago. So, there hasn't been that much that happened in between. Or has there?

As a teenager, I couldn't see past the age of 20. I've always told my peers in secondary school that I would like to die before I turn 20. Nothing much to look forward to after that. But, over the past 1.5 years or so, I've seen the 30-something people live such full and meaningful lives (at the same time not looking old), that I really concluded that 30 is the new 20, and 40 is the new 30. So, the boundaries of age has been pushed further. I look at my late 40 reaching 50 parents, and think that they can probably still have another good 10 to 20 years ahead. So, it's not too bad to be 50 either.

So, in many ways, life has just begun for me. I'm about to stop playing and exploring the possibilities, and be serious and focused about how God is directing my life.

Focused, directed living out of God's calling in obedience. That's seems to be something that is floating in my mind. Not that God really has some specific calling for me, but from what's been revealed so far, I only need to respond in obedience.

I still count worship/ music ministry one of my passions. I still think I may have some sort of inkling part to play in the nurturing of saints, perhaps in the small group setting. And at the turn of the year of 07, perhaps a door is opening to another area of ministry... Not that I'm looking forward to fulfilling greater responsibilities. But, these are to be taken in light of God's process of sanctifying, developing and moulding me towards perfection.

Okie. Enough of the serious reflections.

I've been exploring how to celebrate this momentous day of turning 20. I would like it to be different. Not just spend it alone with a special someone. I mean I have any other day to do something like that. The Lord impressed upon me to appreciate the people around me, who made my life possible. Him, of course. And my family (how i love my family). And, my spiritual family...the bros-&-sis I hang out with every Fri/ Sun. And some special friends who have shaped my life in some way or other.

So, then I toyed with the idea of holding a BBQ. I consulted with my newly crowned bf if a BBQ is a good idea. He graciously didn't object, and went ahead to coordinate everything for me. As my bro puts it, "He'll (bf) soon learn that your (qq) birthday is also his birthday." Hmm...not so sure if I'm looking forward to having two birthdays in a year ;p

Anyway, it was more an excuse to gather friends I treasured more than anything. And, I'm so glad to see them on that day. Thank you for "baptising" me in the pool! *roll-eyes*

PS: All ages above are doctored numbers. Do not be too confused ;p

Driving Miss QQ or is it Miss QQ Driving

My dad "forced" my bro & I to go for driving lessons when I was around 22 yrs old. I remember how I often dreaded going for lessons. I was never very good with all things practical and requiring coordination. So, as one can guess, I had quite abit of problem learning to drive manual cars.

But, looking back, obtaining the driver's license is one of the greatest blessings my dad gave me. I mean if he didn't sponsor the lessons, I would probably have never found the impetus to sign up on my own.

Dad recently commented that one of his regrets was sponsoring our driving lessons. I'm guessing it's because, besides the few thousand dollars I had blew...failing twice...he also had to top up more dollars to help me get a car, and so generously helping me with the occasional insurance payments and carpark charges. Well...what can I say, I have one of the best dads in the world!!

Last week I was offloaded from driving. A certain someone practically ferried me to and from work every day. But, by Thursday, I had a craving to drive on my own, and took my bro out to go pump petrol, even though it was pretty late in the night.

I often told people I don't like to drive -- which is still true. But, I guess, one doesn't know how much they like something until that is taken away from them. Right now, one of the things I miss most is listening to my playlist in my 12 disc CD player. I can't wait to check out the four new CDs I just got! However, on the flipside, I don't miss parking, or having to exert energy and attention to drive myself to work each morning.

Well, I should be back to the driving rountine from tomorrow onwards. Looking forward to more musical delights, and having control within my own hands!! Muahahaha...
